Where History Meets Luxury: Aubrey Hotel Boutique Santiago

The hotel is located in the vibrant Bellavista neighborhood and is not just a hotel, but a historic 1927 mansion that has been meticulously restored. It is very close to Cerro San Cristóbal. You will find yourself between the cultural bustle of Santiago and the relaxing silence of an urban oasis.

This grand house was transformed into the city’s first luxury boutique hotel, blending that “movie mansion” atmosphere with all the comfort we love.

Why is it a traveler’s favorite?

Picture-Perfect Pool: Imagine relaxing in a heated outdoor pool with massage jets, surrounded by vertical gardens and the greenery of the Metropolitan Park. It’s the perfect rest after walking around all day.

Rooms that are Works of Art: There are only 15 rooms, and no two are alike. Some rooms feature private terraces, beds with 300-thread-count linens, and bathrooms with Hansgrohe showers that feel like a waterfall.

A Truly Chilean Welcome: Arrived tired? No annoying bureaucracy here. At The Aubrey, you are greeted with a complimentary Pisco Sour and a relaxing afternoon tea to get you into the mood.

Breakfast: Here, breakfast is “à la carte” style, featuring homemade breads, made-to-order eggs, and fresh fruit to start your day with full energy.

You will be just steps away from La Chascona (Pablo Neruda’s house) and Pátio Bellavista, where the best restaurants and bars are located. Want to take the cable car? It’s right there. Want to catch the metro? Baquedano station is just a 10-minute walk away.

It’s no wonder that The Aubrey Hotel Boutique Santiago has a 9 (Fantastic) rating on Booking.com. It is the preferred choice for travelers who do not compromise on sophistication, history, and impeccable service. Vacancies tend to sell out fast. Secure your reservation now and guarantee an unforgettable stay in Santiago!

Bellavista Neighborhood: The Bohemian and Artistic Heart of Santiago

The Bellavista neighborhood is the pulsating and bohemian heart of Santiago, where urban art meets history at every corner. Known for its colorful houses and tree-lined streets, the neighborhood is a true open-air museum, housing the famous La Chascona, the home of poet Pablo Neruda.

During the day, it is an invitation for peaceful strolls among art galleries and shops selling lapis lazuli handicrafts. At night, the neighborhood transforms: Pátio Bellavista becomes the perfect meeting point, with vibrant energy and an incredible concentration of bars, pubs, and restaurants offering the best of Chilean and international gastronomy. It is, without a doubt, the place for those who want to “see and be seen” in the capital.

What to do in Santiago

The Chilean capital has diverse attractions. We suggest some below so you can have a great time. Santiago is well worth visiting.

The first thing I do when I arrive in a city I’ve never been to is take the tourist bus to get a general idea. I choose where to get off and explore the places my own way.

Discover why Manu National Park is considered the most biodiverse destination on the planet

If you are a traveler seeking a real connection with nature and want to escape the usual tourist routes, Manu National Park in Peru must be at the top of your list. Forget Wi-Fi signals and crowds of tourists; here, the jungle sets the rules.

Located in southeastern Peru, Manu is not just another national park. It is a sanctuary that protects an impressive transition: from the icy peaks of the Andes at 4,000 meters above sea level to the dense and mysterious Amazonian plains.

The Beating Heart of the Peruvian Amazon

What makes Manu so special? The answer is simple: diversity. Due to its vertical variation (from the Andes to the Amazon River), the park houses multiple ecosystems within a single territory.

For birdwatchers: There are more than 1,000 recorded species. This represents about 10% of all the world’s birds!

Wildlife encounters: It is one of the best places in the world to spot the majestic jaguar, as well as giant river otters, lion monkeys, and the rare spectacled bear.

Exuberant flora: It is estimated that the region is home to between 2,000 and 5,000 species of plants, many still unknown to science.

Where Human History Remains Alive

Unlike other parks, Manu is the ancestral home of several indigenous groups, such as the Matsigenka. Most fascinating (and important) is that some areas of the park are inhabited by groups in voluntary isolation. Visiting Manu is understanding that environmental preservation goes hand in hand with respect for human rights and millenary cultures.

How to Explore this Paradise?

The park is divided into three zones to ensure its survival:

Core Zone (Zona Núcleo): Exclusive for scientific research.

Reserved Zone (Zona de Reserva/Cultural): This is where the magic happens for us travelers. It is the area where controlled tourism is allowed, offering unforgettable trails and boat trips.

Buffer Zone (Zona de Amortecimento): Where local communities live and human impact is monitored.

Golden Tip: The journey begins in Cusco. Prepare for an epic trip that mixes winding roads through cloud forests and boat trips along the Madre de Dios and Manu rivers.

Plan Your Trip

To make the most of it and avoid being “stranded” by mud, plan your visit between May and October. This is the dry season, when trails are accessible and animal sightings on the riverbanks are much more frequent.

There are 3 or 4-day expeditions. We opted for the three-day tour, and departures are from Cusco.

Day 1: Cusco – Ninamarca Chullpas – Paucartambo – Pilcopata Rainforest Lodge

Day 2: Pilcopata – Hummingbird Garden – Atalaya – Zipline – Machuwasi Lake – Night walk

Day 3: Amazon Manu Lodge – Parrot Clay Lick (Collpa de Loros) – Cusco

What is included (General Tours):

Ground transportation (round trip).

River transportation on the Alto Madre de Dios River.

Accommodation in Rainforest Lodges.

3 meals and 1 snack per day (vegetarian option available upon request).

Professional local bilingual guide.

Equipment such as binoculars, terrestrial telescope, and first aid kit.

Drinking water.

What to Bring

Camera

Biodegradable sunscreen

Comfortable clothing (long sleeves recommended)

Cash (Soles)

Small backpack

For those looking to enjoy Brazilian cuisine in a cozy atmosphere in Lisbon

ou know those days when you’re craving a taste of home, especially Brazilian food from Bahia? Well, I get those cravings all the time, and this time I found a real hidden gem in Lisbon: Comida de Santo restaurant.

What makes this restaurant truly special isn’t just what’s served on the plate, but the story behind every detail. I had the chance to meet and chat with the owner, who proudly shared that they’ve been open here in Lisbon since 1981. I was like, ‘Wow! I still had my baby teeth back then!’ That’s over four decades of dedication and hospitality, spanning across generations.

The atmosphere is intimate and cozy, with a great selection of Brazilian music playing at just the right volume. Nothing over the top. At the entrance, there’s a bar area with classic furniture, and on the other side, the dining tables.

The service is top-notch from the moment you walk in. The staff is attentive, and our dinner arrived without delay. The decor is colorful yet welcoming, with soft lighting that invites you to chat and raise a glass. It’s a restaurant where the true luxury lies in its authenticity and the warm smiles that greet you.

Whether it’s lunch or dinner, dining at a place with so much tradition and expertise makes all the difference—it’s a guarantee of impeccable service and a welcome that made us feel right at home.

We ordered the Shrimp Bobó and the Carne de Sol (sun-dried beef), and they were ab-so-lute-ly delicious! For dessert, following our waitress’s recommendation, we had Quindim and Cassava Pudding. Next time, we’re definitely trying the Brazilian feijoada. Their menu is very complete, including options for vegetarians. And if you’re not that hungry, they also have pastéis and other Brazilian delicacies.

The experience far exceeded my expectations. We’ve lived in the Lisbon district for years and somehow never knew about this place. But that’s okay—we’ll be coming back many more times to make up for lost time!

I highly recommend making a reservation, as many people will have the same idea on special occasions. Comida de Santo is located at Rua 1º de Maio, 98, 1300-472, Lisbon. It’s definitely worth a visit! It has a 9.3 rating on The Fork, which is the platform we used to book our table.

Spain never ceases to amaze me. When we think of the Valencia region, the beaches and the modern architecture of the City of Arts and Sciences are usually the first images that come to mind. But this time, I decided to delve deeper—literally.

We left Valencia very early, with that vibrant anticipation of knowing we were about to see something unique. Our destination? Vall d’Uixó, in Castellón. The bus ride was quick and comfortable, taking about 40 minutes — the perfect amount of time to watch the landscape change as we approached the mountains.

The Viewpoint and Living History

As soon as we arrived, even before entering the caves, we were greeted by a breathtaking view at the local lookout. There is something truly special about observing the archaeological site of that region; it’s as if the stones tell the stories of civilizations that called that place home thousands of years ago. This historical introduction set the stage for what was to come.

Navigating the Silence of the Caves

Then came the main event: the Caves of San José. Stepping into a boat and gliding through the waters of Europe’s longest navigable underground river is a surreal appeal (the rhyme was intentional!) The silence is only broken by the sound of the oar hitting the water and the echo of our whispers throughout the ancient tunnels.

The rock formations are natural sculptures carved by the patience of time. As we pass through narrow, low galleries that open into vast halls, we have to pay close attention—especially while filming—because sometimes you have to duck quickly to avoid hitting a rock. Strategically placed lights reveal shades of blue and gold that look like they came straight out of a Hollywood movie.

A Surprise Encounter

I thought the tour would be purely contemplative, but the Caves of San José held a secret. At a certain point along the way, we were caught by surprise by something no one in the group expected. It was one of those moments where the camera needs to be on at the exact second, or no one will believe you. But, I’m not going to give any spoilers.

I recorded every detail of this experience — from the light filtering through the rocks to that final surprise, which is really cool. If you want to feel the energy of this place and discover what happened that was so special deep inside the mountain, you need to check out the video I made and posted on the Vamu Ver! Viagem YouTube channel.

The Eiffel Tower, affectionately known as the Iron Lady, is one of the most famous and visited monuments in the world, and an iconic symbol of the capital, Paris, in France.

Since its inauguration in 1889, the Eiffel Tower has welcomed millions of local and international tourists. It is impossible to think of Paris and not immediately have the image of the Eiffel Tower come to mind.

The Eiffel Tower was built as a landmark for the Paris Universal Exposition of 1889, which celebrated the centenary of the French Revolution. The French engineer Gustave Eiffel led the design and construction team for the tower, which was completed in two years and two months. Furthermore, if you go up to the Cupola (the Dome), the highest part of the tower, you will see wax figures and what the office where Gustave Eiffel’s team worked looked like.

Torre Eiffel by night

The Eiffel Tower, made of wrought iron, is approximately 330 meters tall and weighs over 10,000 tons. At the time of its construction, the Eiffel Tower was the tallest structure in the world and remained so for over 40 years.

During the summer, the Eiffel Tower expands a few centimeters due to high temperatures. Summer in Paris is dry, and when there’s a heatwave, ooh la la, it really is hot! There are spray misting systems with water jets and fans for those waiting in line to access the elevators.

Initially, many Parisians were against the construction of the Eiffel Tower, considering it a metal monster that would spoil the beauty of the city (can you believe it?). However, the tower eventually became a great success and an icon not only of Paris but of all of France.

The Eiffel Tower is one of the world’s most popular tourist attractions, receiving millions of visitors every year. There’s a video on the Vamu Ver! Viagem channel, where we walked from Montparnasse to the Eiffel Tower to watch it light up. It’s one of my favorites on the channel. Besides, I might be biased when complimenting it because I just love Paris!

The Eiffel Tower is so tall that its height varies according to the temperature? On hot days, it can measure up to 15 centimeters (6 inches) more than on cold days. It’s possible to find replicas of the Eiffel Tower in various places around the world, including one at the Barra World Shopping in Rio de Janeiro, and we made a video there.

Buy your ticket in advance

Buying your ticket for the Eiffel Tower in advance through a reliable platform like Get Your Guide is the golden tip for an unforgettable and stress-free visiting experience. As the most visited paid attraction in the world, the queues for the Eiffel Tower are legendary, and depending on the day, gigantic. But, by securing your ‘Eiffel Tower Ticket with Optional Summit Access’ in advance, you guarantee your place and avoid hours of waiting at the ticket offices. This is because there is one line to buy the ticket and another for the entrance and ascent to the tower.

For years, I have always bought tickets for the activities offered by Get Your Guide, which is recognized as one of the main tourism platforms. This simplifies the booking process, allowing you to choose the ideal time that fits your trip.

Eiffel Tower Ticket with Optional Summit Access

This activity offers fast elevator access to the 1st and 2nd floors of the Eiffel Tower, where you will enjoy stunning panoramic views of the City of Light. For maximum thrill, choose the option with Summit access and reach the highest point of the tower, at 330 meters (1,083 feet) high, for a breathtaking view over the city of Paris.

Option to ascend to the Summit for the highest view of Paris (it’s worth it)

The guide will meet you at the meeting point to check your ticket and provide instructions.

Enjoy visiting the different levels of the tower at your own pace, including the famous glass floor on the 1st floor (which is really cool!)

Download the app on your cell phone, select the date and time for your visit to the Eiffel Tower. You will then receive your voucher by email, and it will also be available on the app. You do not need to print the ticket; simply present the electronic ticket or the QR code for the activity, and that’s it, and voilà! Ah, Paris! Je t’aime (I love you). Click here to book your Eiffel Tower ticket.

Faro, the capital of the Algarve, is much more than a point of arrival or departure. With authentic charm, a rich history, and a vibrant atmosphere, this port city is a destination that deserves to be explored in depth. Let yourself be carried away by the cobblestone streets, discover hidden treasures, and immerse yourself in the local culture. Prepare to fall in love with Faro, a place where tradition and modernity meet in perfect harmony.

Faro was the second city I got to know when I visited Portugal as a tourist. During the summer, the city gets very lively. The journey through Faro usually starts in its charming Old Town, a labyrinth of narrow streets and historic buildings protected by ancient walls. The entrance through the Arco da Vila (Village Arch), with its Moorish and Christian references, instantly transports us to another time. Inside the walls, the Sé Cathedral of Faro stands out—an impressive building that mixes different architectural styles and offers spectacular panoramic views of the city and the Ria Formosa. In additional, the Episcopal Palace and the Municipal Museum, located in an old convent, are must-see stops for anyone looking to understand the rich historical tapestry of Faro.

Leaving the Old Town, Baixa de Faro pulses with life. The commercial streets, like Rua de Santo António, invite you to take relaxing strolls, with a variety of shops, cafes, and restaurants that serve everything from traditional Algarve dishes to international cuisine. It’s the perfect place to feel the rhythm of the city, observe the daily lives of the locals, and perhaps find that special souvenir. Not far from there, the Faro Marina offers a picturesque setting with its boats and seagulls, ideal for a peaceful late afternoon, enjoying the sunset over the Ria Formosa.

Faro is also the gateway to the stunning Ria Formosa, a natural park that is a true ecological paradise. Boat trips from the marina take visitors to explore the barrier islands, such as Ilha Deserta (Desert Island) and Ilha do Farol (Lighthouse Island), where untouched beaches and breathtaking landscapes await. It’s a unique opportunity to observe the rich local fauna and flora, including several species of migratory birds. A visit to Faro would not be complete without immersing yourself in the serene, natural beauty of this unique ecosystem.

Guidelines for Tourists on the Start of UNEF’s Activities

The National Foreigners and Borders Unit (UNEF), which is part of Portugal’s Public Security Police, began operating on August 21 of this year.

UNEF is the authority responsible for controlling the entry and stay of foreigners in Portugal. Its duties also include managing voluntary return, expulsion, and mandatory removal processes for immigrants.

Last year, the number of Brazilians denied entry into Portugal increased considerably. With 1,470 cases, the number represents a 721% jump compared to the 179 rejections recorded in 2023. Brazil leads the ranking of barred nationalities by a wide margin, well ahead of countries like Angola (274), the United Kingdom (108), and even the United States (63) and Venezuela (58), which are also on the list.

To avoid various embarrassments, see the recommendations:

*Always carry a valid form of identification when in public places. If you are an international tourist, always carry your passport and the invitation letter, if you have one.

* Always have a copy or photo of the documents that prove your situation in Portugal. This may include your residence permit, proof of your “manifestação de interesse,” social security statements, court decisions for AIMA appointments, work contracts, or “recibos verdes” (green receipts).

*If approached by authorities, cooperate with the Portuguese officials, who, by law, must always identify themselves.

In case of detention, if a compulsory removal process is initiated by AIMA or UNEF, the immigrant has the right to present proof of their connection to Portugal and to challenge the detention in court. If needed, you can request a public defender and exemption from court costs. For this, seek the nearest Social Services or “Loja do Cidadão”.

The value of oral health and regular visits to the dentist cannot be underestimated. Oral health is not just about having white teeth and a beautiful smile; it is also directly connected to the overall well-being of the body. Here are some key points highlighted in the interview we conducted with dentist Cristiana Marques from the Unique Smile clinic in Lisbon. Cristiana emphasizes the importance of regular dental check-ups:

Dental Problem Prevention

Regular dental visits enable the early detection of dental issues such as cavities, gum disease, and infections. Treating these conditions early prevents them from worsening and causing discomfort or serious complications.

Prevention of Systemic Diseases

Oral health is closely connected to overall health. Dental issues, such as gum disease, can increase the risk of systemic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and even pregnancy complications. Maintaining good oral health helps prevent these conditions.

Gum Health

Gum diseases, such as gingivitis and periodontitis, can cause inflammation and infection of the gums. If left untreated, these conditions may lead to tooth loss and damage to the supporting bone. Keeping your gums healthy is essential for the longevity of your teeth.

Chewing and Nutrition

Healthy teeth play a key role in properly chewing food. Proper chewing is crucial for good digestion and nutrient absorption. Damaged or missing teeth can limit the ability to eat properly.

Self-esteem and Confidence

A healthy smile can boost a person’s self-esteem and confidence. Visible dental issues, such as stained, missing, or misaligned teeth, can impact how someone feels about themselves and how they are perceived by others.

Prevention of Pain and Discomfort

Untreated dental problems often lead to pain and discomfort, negatively impacting quality of life. Regular oral care helps prevent this unnecessary discomfort.

Financial Savings

Treating dental issues in the early stages is generally more cost-effective than waiting until they become severe. Regular dental visits for check-ups and cleanings can help identify problems before they become expensive to treat.

Oral Hygiene Habits

Dentists also play a crucial role in educating patients about proper oral hygiene. They can provide guidance on brushing, flossing, and other practices to maintain oral health at home.

In summary, oral health goes far beyond the aesthetics of teeth. It has a significant impact on overall health, emotional well-being, and a person’s quality of life. Regular dental visits are essential to prevent problems, maintain oral health, and contribute to a healthy, happy life.

Portugal has stood out as one of the most attractive destinations for foreign residents, thanks to its quality of life, mild climate, safety and rich cultural heritage. For many immigrants of different nationalities, obtaining a permanent residence permit is an important milestone in building a stable life in the country. But what is needed to achieve this status and what benefits? In this article, we explore the process, requirements and benefits of being a permanent resident in Portugal.

What is a Permanent Residence Permit?

The ARP permanent residence permit is a residence permit granted by the Portuguese government through AIMA, Agency for Integration, Migrations and Asylum. The document allows a foreign citizen to reside in Portugal for an indefinite period. Unlike temporary authorizations, which need to be renewed periodically, permanent residence allows the foreigner to reside longer.

Who Can Request?

To apply for permanent residence under article 80 of the Foreigners Law, it is necessary to meet some criteria established by Portuguese legislation:

Legal Residence Time

The applicant must have legally resided in Portugal for at least five consecutive years. This period may include stays under temporary residence permits.

Regular Situation in Portugal

The applicant must be in good standing, with up-to-date documentation from Social Security, Finance and AIMA.

Financial Subsistence Means

You must demonstrate sufficient financial means to support yourself and your dependents, if applicable. Disclaimer is also accepted.

Knowledge of the Portuguese Language

Prove, through a diploma or some other document, knowledge of the basic Portuguese language. This requirement is for all citizens who do not speak Portuguese as their first language. Therefore, Brazilians do not need to present.

Absence of Serious Convictions

Have a clean criminal history in Portugal and in the country of origin. By filling out the permanent residence permit application form, the applicant authorizes the verification of this data.

Is it Worth Applying for a Permanent Residence Permit?

If the resident intends to stay away from Portuguese national territory for longer, if he or she holds a permanent residence permit, he or she will have a longer period abroad.

The title is only renewed every five years, while the residence permit is renewed every two years. Although not mandatory, permanent residence is one of the steps for those who wish to acquire Portuguese citizenship.

How long is it allowed to be absent from Portugal?

With a permanent residence permit, the resident is allowed to be absent for up to 24 consecutive months or 30 interpolated months within a period of thirty months, i.e. three years. Any absence that exceeds these limits must be previously justified through a formal request presented to AIMA before leaving Portuguese national territory or, if applicable, before the scheduled arrival. If the deadlines are exceeded, the resident may lose the right to renewal.

How to Find Out More About the Procedures?

Permanent residence in Portugal goes beyond a simple document: it is the key to belonging and building a future with security in the country you have chosen to call home. With the benefits and stability this title offers, immigrants gain the freedom to plan their dreams with confidence, while leaving their mark on Portugal’s vibrant cultural and economic mosaic.
