What to do in Dublin: tourist attractions and travel tips

The Temple Bar Pub, located in the heart of the Temple Bar district in Dublin, is one of the most famous and iconic pubs in Ireland. The pub has been operating since 1840.

Visiting Dublin, the charming capital of Ireland, means diving into a city where history and modernity blend together. Known for its warm hospitality, Dublin offers a combination of rich culture, stunning landscapes, and a very, very vibrant nightlife. Yes, it’s just like in the movies; the Irish are friendly and hospitable.

I had the opportunity to explore the Irish capital on foot and by tour bus. We did the city tour, as I always do on my first visit to a city. We walked through the streets, appreciating every detail of the city marked by the colors green and gray.

Historical landmarks such as the majestic Dublin Castle and St. Patrick’s Cathedral are recommendations for you to visit. Dublin is also a paradise for literature lovers, as it is the birthplace of renowned writers such as James Joyce and Oscar Wilde.

Streets in Dublin

Dublin is famous for its pubs where locals gather every night to enjoy the famous Guinness, where you can experience authentic Irish music and traditional Guinness. We visited the pub where James Joyce used to frequent, a really cool experience.

We stayed at a hotel in the bustling neighborhood called Temple Bar, where there is easy access to public transportation and, if you prefer, you can walk and reach various tourist spots quickly. At night, the neighborhood transforms when the pubs open and the locals and tourists start moving around. It’s a highly frequented area sought after by visitors from all over the world. The most famous pub is The Temple Bar.

Don’t forget to prepare the documents to present at immigration at Dublin Airport. Take your valid passport, proof of accommodation (whether hotel reservation or staying with a friend or relative), and provide the full address. Purchase a return ticket to your home country, as the immigration officer may ask how long you plan to stay in Irish territory.

We always fly Ryanair, an Irish low-cost airline that operates here in Europe, departing from Portugal. But if you’re flying from another country, check the dates, choose your flight, and have a good trip.

Whether to explore its art galleries, participate in lively festivals, or simply experience the infectious joy of Dubliners, a visit to Dublin is an enriching and unforgettable experience.
